A frozen track awaited the merry drivers along with good hot food to keep them going. Three heats and four rounds of qualifying went swiftly. Things got a little muddy by 11am as it got a little warmer and the ground de-frosted. This didn't spoil the fun though and the clubs compressor did a fine job cleaning up the cars. All four rounds were taken by Sam Gibbons with his RB powered Mugen MBX6, the only man to post a 9 lapper. Ian Boushear with his RB powered Xray 808 looked strong but suffered a catalogue of problems dropping him into the B final. Surprise of the day was Dominic Knight who put down his computer to show some real pace in round four.
The finals were reduced to 10min, with the conditions this was enough. The A final got off to a good start Sam Gibbons decided to roll the tripple and Dave Caine went for it taking the lead only to crash on landing. Dominic Knight then put a fine move on Sam around the sweeper taking the lead only to crash on the exit of the bomb hole. Sam flipped over out of the lead at the end of the tarmac straight and was unlucky not to be marshaled until the entire field went by. This put a now recovered Dave Caine way out into the lead showing good pace. Paul Varley who bumped from the B was in second position showing his run of better form with his new RB powered Hyper 9 was no fluke.Sam pulled back through the field by lap 5 into second but Dave Caine still had a large lead. As they pitted for fuel Dave Caines RB powered Hyper 9 flamed out leaving him stranded half way round the track. Sam then suffered a broken 40mhz aerial and lost control of his car. This put Paul Varley out in the lead with about 5min to go. A bit of a battle followed and Dominic muscled his way by Paul and took the win.
Great days racing against the weather!
